Installing CrashPlan

CrashPlan is LITS's primary solution for backing up and restoring files on college-owned computers. It is pre-installed on most college-owned devices, but you must be actively signed in for backups to run. Without an active backup, LITS may have no way to recover your files after a device failure. The Desktop team also relies on CrashPlan to migrate your data during the device replacement cycle.

If CrashPlan is not installed on your device, follow the steps below to download and install it.

After installing CrashPlan, you must sign in to activate your backups. Installation alone does not start the backup process.

 Instructions

  1. Go to the CrashPlan login page: https://console.us2.crashplan.com/login/#/login
  2. Enter your Hamilton email address and click Sign In. You will be redirected to the Hamilton Single Sign-On (SSO) page.
  3. Sign in with your Hamilton username and password.
  4. After logging in, click Administration in the top menu, then select Download.
  5. Download and run the installer for your operating system.
  6. Once installation is complete, sign in to CrashPlan to activate your backups. See the Signing into CrashPlan article for guidance.

Not sure if CrashPlan is already installed? Search for "CrashPlan" in your applications. If it appears but you are not signed in, go directly to the Signing into CrashPlan article instead of reinstalling.
