Hamilton's e-mail system is HillConnect, powered by Google. You may sign in to your Hamilton email account here. This article covers the following topics:

  • Requesting an Email Account

  • Accessing your Email via the Web

  • Accessing your Email via an Email Software Application

  • Using your Email Account

  • Additional Google Services

Requesting an Email Account

New Student Accounts: LITS automatically creates e-mail accounts for students before the start of their Fall semester (~ July-August). Consequently, there should never be a need for a student to request an email account for their personal use. You will receive instructions by email on how to claim your account.

New Employee Accounts: LITS automatically creates e-mail accounts for employees when we receive official notification from Human Resources that they have been successfully inputted into Workday. You will receive instructions by email on how to claim your account on your official first day of employment.

Temporary Employee Accounts:  To obtain a temporary employee account, please reach out to your supervisor first to coordinate with Human Resources. Your supervisor can then request an account through Rapid Identity by following these instructions. Please do this as far in advance as possible when requesting an account, as several processes must take place to ensure your temp has access to all the resources they will need.

Departmental Accounts: Accounts for departmental use can also be requested using Rapid Identity using these instructions.

Organizational Accounts: Student organizations can request accounts when they coordinate with Student Activities to be registered in Presence.  All student organizations must have an employee/faculty sponsor (either within Student Activities or an employee volunteer) who requests the creation of the Student Organization account within Rapid Identity.

Accessing your Email via the Web

Regardless of whether you are off campus or on campus, you can check your e-mail from any computer as long as it has access to the Internet. Navigate to http://hillconnect.hamilton.edu or sign in with your Hamilton email at http://mail.google.com.

You can also view your e-mail via the e-mail channel in My Hamilton at http://my.hamilton.edu.

Accessing your Email via an Email Software Application

You can access your Hamilton e-mail account using any email client software that supports the IMAP mail protocol. Of the numerous clients available, LITS mainly supports the use of Gmail. Users can also install and configure Thunderbird on your personal computer, please refer to these instructions.

If you are comfortable using another e-mail program without support from LITS and you need further assistance, use the Help feature in the program or refer to the product's support website.

Using your Email Account

Because your Hamilton email is powered by Google, you may use Google Mail resources to configure your account. Below you will find some common topics the Help Desk receives tickets about.

Additional Services

Core services consisting of email, calendar, contacts, Google Drive and Hangouts are available to everyone with an account by default and are covered by an agreement between Google and Hamilton which stipulates important privacy safeguards, data security features and an uptime guarantee.

A curated group of additional services is also available within HillConnect on an “opt in” basis, that falls outside of this agreement. With these additional services, the contract is between Google and the end user, may change at any time, and does not include the same safeguards as above. You may opt-in to these additional Google services here.
