Standard Hamilton College Computer Hardware Configuration

Policies

The following guidelines for standards are based on current technology available combined with the current needs of our end-users. The primary considerations for each configuration (desktop, printing, portable computing) are:

  • Ease of connectivity to the college network

  • Consistent performance of all integrated components in our network environment

  • Industry leader with an established track record in manufacturing, sales and service

  • Successful in-house experience with the chosen products and configurations

  • Serviceability by CCNY Tech, our Hardware Repair Service Provider

  • Minimum campus lifetime of four years

  • Hamilton recommends laptop computers for individuals' computing needs 

 Below are the standard configurations* for new replacement computers for the year 2024-2025.

 
Apple Configuration

  • 16 GB RAM
  • 256 or 512 GB Solid State Drive
  • 24” Display
  • USB Keyboard & Mouse
  • Mac OS Sonoma

Notebook:

  • Apple Silicon or M3 Processor
  • 16 GB RAM
  • 256 or 512 GB Solid State Drive
  • 13.3” or 14" Display
  • Mac OS Sonoma

Desktop:

  • 16 GB RAM 
  • 256 or 512 GB Solid State Drive
