Connecting to Student Storage Server (SSS) on a Mac

This article explains how to connect to the Student Storage Server (SSS) on Mac OS computers from on campus.

 Instructions

Connect to SSS 

  1. In the MacOS Finder, click on the Go menu and then Connect to Server.

  2. In the line next to Server Address typesmb://sss.hamilton.edu/<username>$and click Connect.

  3. You will be asked to confirm the server you are attempting to connect to. Click Connect.

  1. Enter your Hamilton username and password. Click on Connect.

  2. You will now have access to your SSS folder.
     

Create a desktop alias to your SSS folder.

You can easily access your SSS folder by adding it to your Finder sidebar or creating a desktop shortcut.

  • Locate your SSS folder, then click and drag it into the sidebar. To access your SSS folder, click on it in the sidebar. If you're not connected, you will be asked for your username and password.
  • Click on your SSS folder (named after your username) to select it. Hold down the Command and Option keys while you click and drag this folder to your desktop. You will see a small curved arrow next to your mouse pointer as you drag. Release the mouse button on your desktop, then release the Command and Option keys. The alias on your desktop will appear as a folder with a small arrow in the lower left corner. Double-click this alias to open your SSS folder. If you're not connected, you will be asked for your username and password.

 This should be done on personal computers only. NEVER create a desktop alias to your SSS folder on a public lab machine!
