Enabling CrashPlan Permissions on Macs

Tags mac crashplan

Apple privacy restrictions on more recent operating systems require administrators to grant permissions for full disk access on their Mac computers.  Without this access, CrashPlan cannot back up some profile folders like Desktop, Documents, and Downloads. If the user grants full disk access permissions manually, it is possible that major operating system updates can undo these settings.

This article explains how to properly set these permissions. All screen shots in this article are from a Mac running macOS Sequoia (15).

 Instructions

  1. Navigate to your Mac's System Settings.

  2. Scroll to find the Privacy & Security tab and click it.

  3. Click on Full Disk Access.

The Privacy & Security setting page with the Full Disk Access option highlighted.

  4. Find CrashPlan in the list and make sure it is toggled on.

The Full Disk Access page with the CrashPlan option highlighted. Toggle the switch on the right.

  5. If toggling on, you will be prompted for your Mac's credentials to allow the change. CrashPlan will then prompt to quit and reopen in order to process the change.
