Google Search Defaults to an Incorrect Region

 Issue

A user’s browser based Google search results is defaulting to a domain other than United States (ie, google.hk, google.br, etc).

 Cause(s)

Google customizes its search page based on your country. It estimates your location using your IP address, but sometimes this detection can be inaccurate due to various factors beyond our control.

 Resolution

To switch back to the United States, follow these steps:

  1. Open this Google preferences link: https://www.google.com/preferences?lang=1&prev=https://www.google.com/preferences .

  2. Under Results Language & Region, click Results Region.

  3. Scroll to United States, select it, and click Confirm.
