This article summarizes the LITS services and resources available to you as a Hamilton College retiree, including what access you retain, how your Google account is handled at retirement, and what to do if you choose not to keep your email account.
Resources Available to Retirees
As a retiree, you retain access to the following resources:
- Google account (Gmail, Drive, Calendar, and other Google Workspace services)
- My Hamilton
- Library services: All designated retirees retain access to the library's physical materials. For details on other available services, contact the Circulation Desk at askcirc@hamilton.edu.
- Listservs and mailing lists: You will be removed from Google Groups managed lists, including ALL-HAMILTON. However, you will remain subscribed to any LISTSERV lists you are currently a member of, such as EVENTS-ALL, NOTICES-ALL, and others, with the exception of FACCURR and FACDISC. If you have any questions about Listservs, please create a ticket with the Help Desk.
Contributing Retirees
If you choose to continue teaching at Hamilton after retirement, you retain full access to all faculty resources, including online databases and interlibrary loans. Contact the Dean of Faculty for details on this affiliation.
If you return to work at Hamilton in a temporary staff capacity, you will be given access to the resources required for that position.
Google Account Access at Retirement
What happens to your Google account depends on your employment type at the time of separation:
- Staff: Your Gmail account is disabled after your last day of employment.
- Faculty: Your Gmail account remains active for 90 days after your last day of employment.
- Retirees: To maintain ongoing Gmail access, you must be designated as a retiree in Workday. Once that status is set, it flows to our identity management system and preserves your account access.
If you are not designated as a retiree in Workday, your account will be treated as a standard employee or faculty departure and may be disabled accordingly. Contact your HR representative to confirm your status before your last day.
If You Choose Not to Keep Your Email Account
If you do not wish to retain your Hamilton email account, review the Email and Network Account Options article for instructions on transferring your mail, if desired.
If you take no action, the identity management system will automatically remove your account after one year. If you would like your account removed sooner, contact the Help Desk.
