Managing Files on Your Storage Server on the World Wide Web

The Storage Server provides Hamilton College employees and students with storage space accessible from any networked computer on campus and any off-campus computer with an Internet connection. This article explains how to access your storage server (SSS for students and ESS for employees) and modify, save, delete, and rename files on it.

Accessing Your Files and Folders on Your Storage Server via the Web

  1. Navigate to the MyHamilton page.

  2. Log in using your Hamilton username and password. Approve DUO if prompted.

  3. Click on the Files tab. You will see a list of the folders and files you have previously created in your storage server folder.

Reading and Modifying Storage Server Files/Folders

  1. To read or work on the files within your storage server, you must save the documents to your computer.

  2. Follow the file path within your storage server to the file that you would like to download.

  3. Click the file and it will begin downloading. The file is now located in your downloads folder on your machine.

  4. Locate the file and begin modifying.

Saving Modified Files Back to Your Storage Server Folder

  1. After making modifications to your file you must upload it back to your storage server folder.  Clicking on save within the application (e.g. Word) will NOT save the modifications on your storage server.

  2. To upload a file from your computer to your storage server folder, click the Upload File button.

  3. If you are uploading a modified version of a file to replace the unmodified version of that file on the storage server, place a checkmark in the box next to Check to overwrite existing file names. If you aren’t replacing a file, leave this unchecked. Click on the Choose File button.

  4. Browse to the file that you wish to upload. Highlight the file and click Open.

  5. Click Submit. The little box will close, the page will refresh, and the file will show up in your SSS folder.

Deleting Files and Folders

  1. To delete a file or folder, click on Delete next to that file or folder. Folders must be empty to be deleted. If you want to delete a folder with files in it, you must first delete all of the files in that folder and then you can delete the folder.

  2. A box will pop up asking, “Are you sure you want to delete this file?” Click OK.

  3. If the file deletes successfully, the page will refresh and the file will now be deleted. If you attempt to delete a folder that was not empty, you’ll see an error message like the one below. Click Close to close the message. 

Renaming Files and Folders on Your Storage Server

  1. To rename a file or folder on the storage server, click Rename next to the file or folder.

  2. In the space provided, enter the name you want to give the file or folder and click Submit.

  3. The page will refresh with the new file name showing up.
