Error "Bad parameter" in Adobe Acrobat when Making Document Searchable

 Issue

When attempting to make a PDF searchable in Adobe Acrobat via the Scan & OCR tool, you receive an dialog box indicating a “bad parameter” error.

 Cause(s)

This error occurs usually when the document is overly complex (ie, layout, images etc).

 Resolution

Remove accessibility tags from the document:

  1. Open the View menu and choose Show/Hide >> Navigation Panes > Tags.

  2. Select the Tags panel.

  3. Right-click on Tags and select Delete Tags to remove all tags.

  4. Run the “Recognize” function on the document again.
