Issue
A Windows PC with multiple displays connected to a docking station cannot display an image on one or more monitors. All monitors have power, but one or more show black screens.
Cause(s)
- The docking station might not actually be powered on.
- If the power is on, the display might not be extending or duplicating the image from the computer. This might be the case if one monitor is working but the other is not.
- The docking station is having an issue in itself.
Resolution
-
Check that the docking station is plugged into AC power and has a light on it. Make sure the power and AV cables are snug on the back of the monitor(s) as well as the corresponding connections to the docking station.
-
If one display is working, that rules out most software/driver issues. It may be possible that the monitors are being neither duplicated nor extended. To test this, hit the and P keys together, and choose Extend from the available options.
-
It is possible the docking station is having some sort of handshaking issue. Typically this happens when the primary monitor is displaying fine and the secondary monitor(s) are not.
-
Shut down the PC.
-
Unplug the docking station from power.
-
Wait 30 seconds.
-
Plug the docking station back in and boot the PC.
